Variety, the Childrens Charity
Kym Burke is a member of Tent 75 Variety the Children’s Charity South Australia,. His involvement with Variety began in 1992 with the first of six SA Variety Bashes. Kym joined the Board in 1999 and was nominated and agreed to a role as Vice-Chairman to Bill Rawlins the Chief Barker in his first year on the crew. His wealth of experience and knowledge from his business background immediately saw him undertake an organisational review which resulted in a re-drafting of the Charity’s direction and structure.
He was appointed Chairman (Chief Barker) in 2001 and with a background in property development and a passion for Tent 75 to own its own premises; Kym led the purchase of land and building construction of the purpose built facility V House at Richmond Road, Keswick. The building opened in 2005 was made possible by enormous contributions made by Variety supporters with donations of cash, services and materials. Kym passed the Chief Barker baton to Peter Cochrane in 2003.
As National Chairman from 2005 until 2007, Kym not only focussed on facilitating the agreed national programmes, in particular the Show of Hearts Scholarship initiative, but championed and led the restructuring of the National Association. In 2006 Kym Burke was awarded an International Variety Presidential Citation joining Chris Ostermann, Isobel Speed, Peter Cochrane, Tom Matters, Ian Martens and Bill Rawlins, as South Australian recipients for their contribution to this wonderful Children’s Charity.
