The History
Peter Hurley, Mark Ricciuto and Simon Goodwin purchased the Aruma Ski Resort, formerly known as Sab-aruma, on Wongulla Road at Walker Flat, from the South Australian Brewing Company Pty Ltd in 2006. In doing so they secured a truly rare resort-style River Murray icon. Soon after acquisition of the property Peter Hurley, invited Burke Urban to participate as Joint Venture partner in the ongoing development of the scheme.
“Sab-Aruma” Holiday Park was originally established in 1965 as a holiday destination for the Brewer’s employees. It reflects a time when the culture of an organisation was that of sponsor and benefactor. Constructed with 35,000 hours of voluntary labour and financial contribution of the Brewery, a holiday destination for families was produced.
Location
Aruma is located at Walker Flat, only a short 1.25 hour drive from Adelaide and a 20 minute drive to Mannum.
Walker Flat offers a free 24 hour ferry crossing to the other side of the River, a general store, service station and liquor store. Once you arrive, there is no need to leave the magnificent setting of Walker Flat during a week-long retreat.

Roo is passionate about the River having grown up in Waikerie and his family still lives there today. "I feel like a traitor sometimes. Waikerie is my home, I was born there and it is in my blood, but Aruma is an absolute winner." Says Roo.
"When Pete, Goodie and I found Aruma I knew straight away that this place was special. Walker Flat offers some of the best water skiing around, but more than that Aruma offers a rare opportunity for community and relaxation. There is nowhere else I know on the river where you can have a holiday home that offers magnificent views, exclusive access to the river, a pool, tennis court, playground, amazing grounds with a lawn area big enough for a game of footy and on top of all of that an Onsite Caretaker. Anyone who doesn't want to be a part of something special like this needs their head read if you ask me."
Roo then reiterates, "I go and stay there now with my family and friends and everyone loves it. The kids just have a ball and I feel relaxed knowing that everyone is happy. Now that the swimming pool and tennis court have been renovated it looks absolutely amazing. We will complete the first river pontoon this year and two brand new homes commence construction in March. I couldn't be happier with the way the site is coming along and feel proud to be a part of it".
